Will Lollie
Interview by Mark Longenecker |
Will Lollie may seem like a relatively new name on the tattoo scene, but in truth Will's been tattooing since 1997. I remember seeing Will's work gradually pop up in tattoo magazines the last few years and being thrilled cause he was a fellow Florida boy. Will has a unique style and I can recall seeing tattoos he did of human-like sea creatures and a glass person filled with a red liquid and cork top. Some of his designs are so out there one would think that Will may have dabbled with some psychedelic drugs in the day. At the young age of just 23, these could be characterized as the fabled "party years" for an up-and-coming tattoo artist filled with drunkenness and debauchery, but that simply isn't the case. Will is straight as an arrow without being "Straight-Edge". No drinking or drugs at all, though he does enjoy a good steak every now and then. Instead of wasting away his youth Will lives the mature life of a loving father of 2 and a caring husband to his charming wife Bobbi.
I caught up with Will after spending some time traveling through Texas and New Orleans. Will works at the tip of Florida's panhandle in the Navy town of Pensacola. He works at one of the towns best tattoo shops, Hula Moon; a studio with a good reputation for solid traditional American tattooing. Will's style of tattooing is unquestionably hard to explain but, as you can see, he stands out in the crowd - to say the least. He has a very casual demeanor about himself, which made the interview flow easily given that I had never spoken with him before. When we had finished the interview it was clear to me that he has 3 true loves in his life: his family, his painting, and, of course, his tattooing. I have no doubt that Will Lollie's name will become more and more recognizable as he rises to the top of the tattoo trade over the course of the next few years.
